The SDPA hosts its annual Bridging the Gap event

The San Diego Paralegal Association hosted a unique event on Saturday called "Bridging the Gap". This event allowed paralegal students and professionals alike to come together and network as well as participate in educational classes and, of course, interact with yours truly! I had the pleasure of meeting so many aspiring and working paralegals, many of whom were very excited to be at this event.Kicking off the event

The day began with a welcome breakfast, where many of the event attendees came by our booth and introduced themselves. Once again, our keyboard brushes were a hit! After the welcome reception, the attendees went off to their classes. One of the big classes of the day was focused on eDiscovery and the changing legal world as we move from paper to electronic filing, service, and discovery. Paralegals were encouraged to attend webinars and classes to improve their knowledge of this topic, as more and more firms are hiring only those who have a strong understanding of eFiling, eService, and eDiscovery. With the San Diego Superior Court's recent Imaging and eFiling initiative, this topic is even more relevant. If you are interested in learning more about eFiling and eService, please visit our Product Training & Research page and see all the classes we offer to further your legal education!

The keynote speaker was none other than the “Lawyer in Blue Jeans”, Jeff Isaac. He is a practicing attorney as well as a radio personality and a frequent guest on many news television shows. He brought humor and insight to the subject of law, and let’s face it…That is no easy task! Fun fact: Did you know that in Nevada, it is illegal to ride a camel down the street? I would love to know the events that led up to the implementation of that law! He had everyone laughing while at the same time motivating all those in the room to think outside of the box. As a self proclaimed recovering divorce attorney, he encouraged all of us in the room to do what we love, because in the end, that's what matters.

At the end of the event, the vendors were asked to speak about their company and products and to draw names for the raffle. The lucky recipient of One Legal’s prize, a gift card for iTunes, was Christal Mae Bundang. Congratulations, Christal!

Thank you to all those who stopped by our booth and said hello, and a big thanks to the San Diego Paralegal Association for putting on such a great event!
